“The care of human life and happiness—and not their destruction—is the first and only object of good government.”
To me, this quote from Thomas Jefferson embodies Whiting. We see a genuine care for neighbors demonstrated in the activities of our robust civic organizations, the vitality of our faith community, the size and spirit of our annual festivals. We see it in the daily example of a local government that strenuously supports this sense of community. There is an ethic here that demands care and concern for one another, a recognition that our fates our bound inextricably together in a common past and a collective destiny. HB 1001 is flawed. It would, in essence, deny us the opportunity to continue charting the course of our own future. It would also, sadly, create a situation in which our state legislature would unintentionally violate this most basic principle of good governance. Please share your concern with our representatives and let them know HB 1001 must be amended.
Join us in supporting Mayor Joseph Stahura and State Rep. Reardon in their efforts to amend Indiana HB1001 in order to save the city of Whiting. This petition shows that Hoosiers across the state believe that the future of Whiting deserves the consideration of Indiana Lawmakers.
